It’s my birthday today. I’m 26. Not a round number, not a special day in particular either. Birthdays are annoying: all your friends and relatives who remember your birthday will call to remind you that you are one year older. Sure, I understand celebrating your birthdays after you turn 70, because you have something worth celebrating - you’ve pulled it through for one more year. The closer you get to 100, the bigger the party should be. Have fun, too - wet your pants, make kids trip over with your cane, drop your false teeth “by mistake” in someone else’s drink - nobody should mind.

Birthdays are fun when you’re a kid. You get lots of attention, presents, have a day off. But when you grow older and realize that time is a finite resource continuously growing on you, the first thought is “Oh no, not again. It’s been a year already?!” Even if you can’t see it, you feel that your hair is turning white. You remember the list of things you wanted to do from your previous birthday, which are still not even started yet. Where’s the fun in that?

Don’t despair now, things are not really as bad as my sarcastic nature displayed them. Birthdays are moments in life for you to catch your breath, to count your deeds and faults over the past year and balance them out, to remember wishes that came true and wishes that you didn’t work hard enough to make true. It’s time to remember the friends whom you didn’t call or see for a year. It’s time to think of new plans for the upcoming year.

For me, the 26th birthday means creating this blog. It will be like a straw stuck in my brain, leaking out ideas buzzing inside and random, half-polished synapses. Who knows, maybe you’ll find something interesting among them to give your brain a workout. A global brainstorming exercise - that’s what blogging is all about, isn’t it?

So there. Can I have my Bloggers’ Club Membership card now, please?
